On this page you will find some of my favourite books. These are some of the books that I go back to over and over again! Some have great tips and ideas for homeschooling and some were ones that encouraged my homeschool mama's heart. I have posted them here so I can share them with you, in the hope that you will be blessed and encouraged by them as I have.

Better Late Than Early
by Raymond and Dorothy Moore Basically, this book explains that it is better to wait until your children are 8-10 years old before starting formal schooling. They explain that most children are not ready for formal education before that. They also explain that pushing children before they are ready will not only make them hate learning, but could hurt them physically, (for example, if they spend too much time doing close bookwork, their eyes may not develop their long vision muscles properly.) |

How Am I Smart?
by Dr. Kathy Koch "At one time or another, most kids will ask -- or secretly wonder -- "Am I smart?" But a better question is "How am I smart?" Dr. Kathy Koch's down-to-earth and practical guide to the theory of multiple intelligences helps parents and teachers discern and develop their children's unique wiring." (*From the back of the book.) |
Dr. Koch was a speaker at our homeschool convention one year and what she said was eye-opening for me! Things like my daughter's constant arguing about everything means she is logic smart. My husband's constant humming, whistling and drumming his fingers is a sign of his music smart. Dr. Koch then gives ways you can work with your children's intelligences to help them learn better, instead of fighting against their natural tendencies and causing stress and strife in your homeschool.

Desperate: Hope for the Mom Who Needs to Breathe
by Sarah Mae & Sally Clarkson "Sarah Mae and Sally Clarkson have been to the edge and back. Desperate is the story of one young mother's trials and one experienced mentor's priceless exhortations. Desperate is not a book about despair, nor is it a rule-laden mothering manual. It is a life offering filled with encouragement, help and answers to some of your heart-wrenchingly honest questions." A friend gave me this book, and there was no doubt it was a God thing. I remember reading the first chapter with tears streaming down my cheeks as I thought that I could have been the one writing it. It seemed like she was telling my story! As I continued to read the book I knew that God was speaking to my heart. I needed the message in this book! Every mom I know who has read it has felt the same. It is an amazingly encouraging book! Some day I will do a proper review about it and tell you more. Better yet, grab a copy of it and read it yourself :) I have no doubt that you will be blessed by this book!
